Plasma Verruca Treatment

Targeted relief for persistent verrucas, using cutting-edge plasma technology.

We are pleased to now offer Plasma Therapy for the treatment of stubborn verrucas using the advanced Verruca Pen. This safe, targeted, and highly effective approach offers an innovative alternative to traditional verruca treatments – now available in our clinic.

If you've tried over-the-counter treatments, cryotherapy, or acids without success, plasma therapy may offer the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for.

What is Plasma Verruca Treatment?

Plasma treatment uses a high-frequency electrical arc to create a small, controlled plasma discharge. When applied directly to a verruca, it breaks down the infected tissue and stimulates the body’s natural immune response, helping to clear the underlying human papillomavirus (HPV).

This method is minimally invasive, highly targeted, and can be especially helpful for:

  • Long-standing verrucas that have not responded to other treatments

  • Painful plantar warts interfering with daily activity

  • Patients seeking a more proactive, clinical approach

This minimally invasive treatment allows us to treat persistent, long-standing verrucae that have not responded to over-the-counter methods or conservative care.

  • ✺ What to expect during treatment ✺

Unlike many topical treatments, plasma therapy works at a cellular level, helping to destroy the infected tissue while encouraging the skin’s natural healing process. This can be particularly beneficial for:

βœ”οΈ Precision: Targets only the verruca tissue, minimising damage to surrounding skin
βœ”οΈ No need for daily home application or messy acids
βœ”οΈ Quick in-clinic treatment with minimal downtime
βœ”οΈ Clinician-led care: Delivered by an HCPC-registered podiatrist in a safe, sterile setting

Each treatment is precise and localised, limiting damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

  • ✺ Your appointment will include ✺

A full assessment of the lesion to confirm diagnosis and suitability

Localised skin preparation including necessary debridement of targeted lesions

Plasma treatment using the Verruca Pen β€” most lesions take only a few minutes to treat

Aftercare guidance including dressing (if necessary), footwear advice, and follow-up planning

Some mild discomfort may be experienced during treatment. After treatment, the area will develop a brown/black scab and does not require any at home aftercare to be followed.

  • ✺ Aftercare & Healing ✺

The treated area may form a small scab or crust and may feel sore for a few days.

Normal footwear can usually be worn, and most people can resume daily activities straight away.

A follow-up appointment may be recommended 4–6 weeks later to review healing and, if needed, repeat treatment.

Patients typically require 1–3 sessions, depending on the size, depth, and chronicity of the verruca.

  • ✺ Who Is It Not Suitable For? ✺

Plasma verruca treatment is not suitable for:

    - Children under the age of 6

    - People with certain skin conditions (e.g. eczema, psoriasis on the treatment site)

    - Those with poorly controlled diabetes or neuropathy in the feet

    - Those who are prone to poor wound healing or keloid scarring

    - Immunocompromised individuals or undergoing chemotherapy

    - Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals (as a precaution)

We will always assess your suitability thoroughly and offer alternative options where appropriate.

Frequently asked questions

  • Plasma is the fourth state of matter. After solid, liquid and gas, comes plasma. It is created when an electrical energy is applied to gas and it ionizes to become high energy plasma. In the case of the Verruca Pen PE II, the gas is oxygen and nitrogen.

  • The Verruca Pen PE II works on a verruca by disrupting the virus that hides in the skin. It will evaporate the skin cells around it. In turn this prompts an immune response from your body to fight the virus and clear the verrucae.

  • Plasma verrucae removal is not painful however, you may experience some mild discomfort. This is what makes it well tolerated by adults and children.

  • The Verruca Pen self-seals and will leave a brownish/black area. This will drop off in a week or so. Do not be tempted to pick it.

  • Your foot will generally feel much better after the Verruca Pen session. The callus around the verruca will have been removed beforehand and there will therefore be less pressure on the verruca. There is no residual discomfort afterwards. You can carry on with your life as normal.

  • You will need at least 2 sessions and perhaps need more.

It is difficult to say exactly how many you will need, as verruca can be notoriously difficult to treat. Most patients require 3 or 4 sessions. We will discuss all the options with you during your consultation so that you can decide if this is the right option for you.
