Toenail Reconstruction at Bailey Podiatry & Reflexology

What is toenail reconstruction?

Toenail reconstruction is a cosmetic podiatry treatment that uses a specialist elastic, antifungal resin to rebuild part or all of a damaged toenail. The result is a natural-looking, durable nail that blends with your existing nail plate and allows you to wear open-toed shoes or sandals with confidence.

This treatment is ideal for toenails that are:

  • Thickened, discoloured, or misshapen

  • Damaged due to trauma (e.g. dropping something on the toe)

  • Partially missing following fungal infection or injury

  • Cosmetically affected after podiatry procedures

How does it work?

  1. Preparation – The natural nail is carefully cleaned and reduced to create the best bonding surface.

  2. Application – A hypoallergenic resin (Wilde-Pedique Plus) is applied to the nail plate.

  3. Curing – The resin is set under a UV light, creating a strong yet flexible nail.

  4. Finishing – The new nail is shaped and smoothed to look natural and feel comfortable.

How long does it last?

A reconstructed nail will usually last 6–8 weeks, depending on the nail’s condition, footwear, and lifestyle factors. As your natural nail grows, the reconstruction will gradually move forward and may need replacing or rebalancing at your next appointment.

For patients who have had a total nail removal (where no nail plate remains), reconstruction can still be performed, but please note that it is usually temporary, as the resin cannot bond securely to skin. In these cases, a hypoallergenic nail glue may be used to reapply the nail when desired.

What are the benefits?

  • Restores a natural, healthy appearance

  • Boosts confidence in open-toed shoes or barefoot

  • Flexible and comfortable — adapts to the natural movement of the toe

  • Can be tinted for a natural look or polished over for a cosmetic finish

  • Helps protect the underlying nail during regrowth

Is toenail reconstruction right for me?

Toenail reconstruction is a safe, professional treatment but may not be suitable for everyone. At your appointment, we’ll assess your nail and discuss the best options for your foot health and cosmetic goals.
